Enlisted in Company D, North Carolina 52nd Infantry Regiment on 01 Apr 1863.
The 52nd NC Troops were included in Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg July 3, 1863. Edward Young reached the Union lines, was captured confined at Fort Delaware, Delaware on or about July 10, 1863. He was transferred to Hospital at Chester, Pa., August 10, 1863 and then paroled at Chester on an unspecified date. He was received at City Point, Va., September 23, 1963, for exchange. He returned to duty in Jan/Feb 1864, promoted to Sergeant on 15 Dec 1864 and was present or accounted for through December 1864.
