Note on Husband: Don Claxton LEWIS
Don was born on February 7, 1939 in Stokes County, NC to the late Claxton A. and Ruby Rutledge Lewis. He was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, youth leader for 15 years, and was the Cemetery Chairman. Don was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with 31 years of service and worked part time at Burroughs Funeral Home for several years. He loved to play and coach softball. He coached softball for 38 years with 28 of those years White Service Station was the team sponsor, and in doing so, he touched countless lives of many. During his coaching career, Don won the 2002 and 2004 World USSSA Tournament, and in 2005 he was inducted into the NC USSSA Slow Pitch Softball for coaching, Hall of Fame. He loved watching his grandchildren play ball throughout the years. Don loved farming, hunting, and his family. He never met a stranger.
