Mrs. Young was born December 7, 1911 in Bost Mills, NC (Cabarrus County). She was a daughter of the late E.T. and Zula Henshaw Bost.

Mary Frances's early school years were spent at a two room school named High Point, located on a hillside some miles away. Mary Frances and her teacher, who roomed at the Bost home, traveled to High Point in a buggy driven by her brother Aaron. Gene, her other brother, rode horseback. Mary Frances attended High School in Concord; later she attended Greensboro College where her mother and two aunts had attended. Her sister Katherine followed Mary Frances at Greensboro several years later.

Upon graduation from Greensboro College, Mary Frances secured a teaching job at Central Elementary School in Albemarle where she met her future husband Kermit Young, on Valentine's Day at a boarding house evening meal. Kermit was the manager of the local Belk's Department Store.

Mary Frances and Kermit were married in 1936. In 1939 they moved to Norwood, where Kermit and his brother Robert began a store fixture manufacturing business and Mary Frances taught in the Aquadale and Norwood Schools, retiring in 1962.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the UMW. She spearheaded the church's sesquicentennial celebration in 1975.

She had been an active member and leader in many organizations including DAR, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, Home Extension, Hospital Auxiliary, Norwood Book Club, Norwood Woman's Club, Girl Scouts, The Stanly County Historic Preservation Commission, Stanly County Genealogical Society, The North Carolina Retired School Personnel.

In 1981, she was selected Stanly County Woman of the Year by the Albemarle Woman's Club, being recognized specifically for her leadership in the organization and implementation of Norwood centennial celebration year.

She was preceded in death by her husband Kermit and her siblings, E.T. Bost Jr, Aaron Bost and Katherine Bost Underwood.

She is survived by her son, Kermit Leslie Young Jr. of Norwood and her daughter Adelaide Young McNeill and husband John of Norwood. Three Grandchildren, Jack McNeill and wife Laura of Fuquay-Varina, NC, Margaret McNeill Gaillard and husband John of Greer, SC, and Mary Lou McNeill Bowers and husband Jeff of Concord. Six Great-Grandchildren, Evan and Kathryn McNeill, Carolina and Mattison Gaillard, Benjamin and William Bowers.
