Born in Wendell, NC, Billy moved to Winston-Salem in 1949. He found a job with Winston Meat Packing, manufacturing hotdogs. Billy met his wife Hope Elmyra Young and married February 25, 1950. Billy then worked at McLean Trucking Company until he retired in 1986. Billy enjoyed gardening and raising his chickens. Billy won several awards at the County Fair yearly. A dedicated Christian, he sang tenor in the choir at First Assembly of God where he was a member for 20 years.
