Note on Wife: Mary Lila EAST
In 1998 Lila’s sister, Nann East, lived at the Young home to help Lila with the kids after Lila had her 4th child, William Jennings Bryant. Lila committed suicide by drinking a mixture of strychnine after she found out that Nann had gotten pregnant by Jim Young. On Christmas Eve of 1898, which was also Lila's 22nd birthday, she then went to the master bedroom in her parents' house and drank the strychnine. After finding Lila, her mother Martha tasted some of the liquid and became ill but recovered. Lila was not given a headstone in the East graveyard until her son Foy placed one there in the 1960's.
